A bivoltine species. Queens usually emerge from hibernation in March. Workers fly from late April to September. Males emerge from late May to June, and fly until the end of September (Westrich, 1989). The species is known to produce two generations a year in Spain (Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez, 2004, and in the UK (pers. obs)).
Predators and parasites: The cuckoo bee Bombus norvegicus is a social parasite of this species. (Peeters, Raemakers & Smit, 1999).
Notes: The mean (range) colony‐specific worker foraging distance over the 62 accepted colonies was 103.6m (13.5–460.6m). The maximum individual worker foraging distance was 601m (Crowther et al., 2019)
