The species is remarkable in the longevity of the gynes and workers. The species emerges from hibernation from the end of March and the workers are active in the spring. They are less often seen in summer. The males emerge late in the summer (August) and fly until the end of October (Westrich, 1989). In the Levant, males are active in the early Spring (Bino et al.,1982).
Label data from Spanish specimens show that females are active from (at least) April to July (Ortiz-Sanchez & Pauly, 2017). Mavromoustakis (1948; 1951) reports activity in Cyprus in December and March
Parasites: Knerer (1968) suggested that Sphecodes ruficrus was a cleptoparasite of this species, but in Germany (and in many other parts of its known range) there are no known parasites. (Westrich, 1989)
