A univoltine species; end of May to late August (Stanisavljević, 2000; Else & Edwards, 2018).
A rare colour form of this species exists in which all the pilosity is black, with the exception of the scopa which remains a brilliant vermilion colour (pers. obs.)
Parasites and predators: Coelioxys elongata has been reared from a probable nest of this species (Spooner in Stidston, 1951). Cells are sometimes infested by the chalcids Monodontomerus obscurus (Torymidae) and Pteromalus venustus (Pteromalidae) (Holm & Skou, 1972). Westrich, (1989) and Banaszak & Romasenko (1998) cite Coelioxys elongata and C. quadridentata as cleptoparasites.
