The queens emerge in mid-May, with worker brrod being produced in Mid June. Males emerge in early July and fly until late August.
A species which shows varying degrees of melanism in Norway and Kamchatka (Løken, 1973). Similar melanism is reorted in northern Sweden an Finnish Lapland by Pekkarinen & Teras (1995).
Parasites: In a nest from Sauda: Övre Sandvatn (Norway) investigated by O. Meidell in 1936, 2 dipterous cocoons were found which were tentatively ascribed to Brachycoma devia (Fallén) (Løken,1973)
