Univoltine, with an extended flight period. Early May to late June or July. The males of both S. spinulosus and this species are unusual in this genus by flying in the spring and not from mid summer onwards (as occurs with other Sphecodes in the British Isles).
Balzan et al (2017) report females (as Sphecodes ruficrus) active in April in Malta.
