Distribution; world
A holarctic species. Its disjunct Palaearctic range extends from the boreal zone of northern Europe eastwards to the Russian Far East, the Caucausus, the Alps and at scattered sites at lower altitudes. Across the Palearctic the species is represented by the nominate form, and in the Nearctic by ssp. frigida.:
