Distribution; world
This is a species of western Europe and north west Africa which exhibits a typical boreo-alpine distribution. Ebmer (1988) details its range as comprising Fennoscandia (including the Arctic zone), the British Isles east to the Carpathian Ukraine and, in southern Europe (where it is chiefly a montane species), Spain (Pyrenees and the Cantabrian mountains), Italy, the former Yugoslavia, Macedonia, Greece and the Caucasus:
