Distribution; world
The species has a transpalaearctic distribution, the range extending from the British Isles to Japan and, in western Europe, reaching north to northern Finland (Ebmer, 1988). In southern Europe it is confined to mountainous situations (up to 1800m), and in this area occurs in southern France (Massif Central), Austria, Greece and Asia Minor (Turkey).
