Distribution; world
The present species has a Holarctic distribution. In the Palaearctic region it is widespread, ranging from southern Fennoscandia south across Europe to Austria and eastwards to China (Morawitz, 1890; Yasumatsu, 1941). It also occurs in North Africa (Benoist, 1961; Warncke, 1974). In the Nearctic it occurs from Nova Scotia to Wisconsin, south to Virginia and Ohio (Hurd in Krombein et al., 1979)(Hurd presumes it is an introduction in North America):
