Distribution; world
Mainly a northern European species, becoming scarcer further south. F.K. Stoeckhert (1933) describes it as being boreo-alpine. The range extends from central Fennoscandia (Aurivillius, 1903; Elfving, 1968) south across Europe to Spain (Dylewska, 1987), and eastwards to Czechoslovakia and Bashkirskaya (Kocourek, 1966):
