Central and southeastern Europe to the Caucasus region (Armenia, Azerbaijan) and southwestern Asia (Turkey, Israel) (Dylewska 1987, Gusenleitner and Schwarz 2002, Kuhlmann et al. 2012, Rasmont et al. 2013, Ascher and Pickering 2014).:

The population is presumably small, but there is no clear information available on the actual population size and trend of this species in most European countries, although it should be noted that at least in the Czech Republic this species unusually highly dominant in the steppe (Přidal and Vesely 2011).
