Apparently scarce but widely distributed in the Palaearctic, from southern Fennoscandia south across Europe to southern France, and east to Greece (Mt. Olympus) and Siberia (Warncke, 1988, who also provides a distribution map of the species; Banaszak & Romasenko, 1998). F.K. Stöckhert (1933) considers it to be a boreal-alpine species in the broad sense.:
