Distribution; world
In Europe this is predominantly a southern bee, becoming more sporadic in the central zone and absent from the north. The range extends from central France to north Africa, east to Iraq and north-west India (D.B. Baker, pers. comm.). It is also known from Japan (Tadauchi in Hirashima et al., 1989).:
