Distribution; world
The range extends from Denmark (Jørgensen, 1921), south across Europe to central Spain, and east to northern Italy (where it is montane) and eastern Russia (Warncke, 1988, who also includes a distribution map of this species). ssp. clarior is restricted to the Pyrenees mountains:

Abundance; world
In mainland Europe, it is widely distributed, but remains a very local and rare species, especially in the north.
