Distribution; world
F.K. Stöckhert (1933) describes this bee as an "Atlantic" species with its centre of distribution in Britain. At that time it seems to have been virtually unknown on continental Europe. Dylewska (1987), lists its extra-British distribution as Austria (Karnten), northern Italy and the former U.S.S.R. (Ukraine, Bashkirskaya, Mohilevo). Grunwaldt (1979) also cites the U.S.S.R. (Mogilev, Lettland and the Urals). The supposed record from Austria and the erroneous record from France (although corrected in Warncke 1975) has been copied by almost all subsequent authors.:
