Distribution; world
A species of northern and central Europe, though generally rare in the central regions. It seems to be widespread in Fennoscandia, the range continuing south and east to Italy, Sicily, the Balkans, Greece, Crete and European parts of the former U.S.S.R. (Dylewska, 1987). It also occurs in Japan (Hirashima, Tadauchi & Suda, 1979; Tadauchi & Hirashima, 1984).

Abundance; world
Details of the population size and trends are unknown but as the species has a very large extent of occurrence (EOO), area of occupancy (AOO) and is regularly encountered in ecological survey work, it is therefore assumed that the population is large overall.
