The species is widely distributed in western Europe, but appears to be rare throughout its range. F.K. Stöckhert (1933) summarises its distribution as France to central and southern Germany, and northern Italy. It is also known from Holland (Leys, 1978), Spain and the U.S.S.R. (Ukraine, Caucasus)(Dylewska, 1987), Czechoslovakia (Kocourek, 1966), Turkey (Warncke, 1974) and Romania.:
