Distribution; world
A Holarctic bee, widespread in both Europe and North America. The Palaearctic range extends from southern Finland (Elfving, 1968) south to Spain and the Azores (though apparently not north Africa), and south-east to Sardinia, Romania, Rhodes and Crete.The species has also been reported from central Asia (F.K. Stöckhert, 1933). Banaszak & Romasenko (1998) also list the Caucasus. In North America, it is distributed from north of the Arctic Circle (Sakagami & Toda, 1986) south to Florida, Missouri, Colorado, Nevada and Arizona (Hurd in Krombein et al., 1979):
