The species occurs throughout much of Europe, from southern Fennoscandia (Aurivillius, 1903; Elfving, 1968) south to Switzerland, Austria, and east to the Caucasus (Banaszak & Romasenko, 1998) and north Africa (F.K. Stöckhert, 1933; Warncke, 1981). Adventive in North America
