The species' range extends throughout central and southern Europe, but it is sparsely distributed and very rare nearly everywhere (F.K. Stöckhert, 1933). Warncke (1981) provides a distribution map for this species. D.B. Baker (pers. comm.) has found the species quite commonly on the Caspian coastal plain in northern Iran.:
