Distribution; world
Widespread, from southern Finland (Elfving, 1968) and Denmark (Lomholdt, 1977), east to Hungary (Mayer, 1924), and southwards to north Africa (F.K. Stöckhert, 1933). Where found in central Europe it can be locally common, though sporadic (M. Schwarz, pers. comm.). The species is recorded from Kazakhstan (Marikovskaya 1990):
