Lasioglossum (Hemihalictus) nitidiusculum (Kirby, 1802)

Excavator: Ground. R.C.L. Perkins (1923) and Stelfox (1927) describe this bee in Devon and Ireland respectively as nesting in large aggregations, but these days even small aggregations are rarely found anywhere in the British Isles.

In Fife and near Arbroath, L. nitidiusculum is nesting in earth banks where the underlying geology is red sandstone. There is a preference for the lighter soil types in Fife, where in some areas concentrations of burrows can be found along a line of lighter sandy material, avoiding more dense soils (B. Little in litt.).

A solitary species (Westrich, 1989).
