Excavator: Ground. In Bedfordshire, Chambers (1949) describes the species as nesting in roadside banks. In Salop, I have found both sexes sheltering within Stellaria flowers during overcast conditions.
In Germany the species tends to nest in large aggregations (Westrich, 1989).
