Icteranthidium ferrugineum (Fabricius, 1787)

Excavator: Ground/Mason. Mavromoustakis (1948) outlines details of the nesting ecology. He reports that the bees dig burrows in the sand, often only 10-15m from the sea. The burrows are excavated radially to a depth of 15cm, and in a small cavity, constructs its nest which is attached to the roots of plants. The nest consists of about 10 cells made from resin and sand, and has the form of a small honeycomb. The second brood can use the excavations created by the first generation.
