Coelioxys (Coelioxys) quadridentatus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Cleptoparasitic: Hosts; A cleptoparasite of certain Anthophora and Megachile species. A specimen has been reared by M. Edwards from a West Sussex nest of Anthophora furcata in rotten wood, and in Surrey D.B. Baker (pers. comm.) has observed specimens apparently associating with a nesting aggregation of Anthophora quadrimaculata in an old brick wall.

Jørgensen (1921) lists Anthophora bimaculata as a host. In Britain there seem to be no records of its being reared from Megachile nests, but hosts in this genus listed in the continental literature include M. circumcincta, M. willughbiella and M. dorsalis [as argentata] (Jørgensen, 1921; Bischoff, 1927; Erlandsson, 1955; Westrich, 1989; van der Zanden, 1982; Banaszak & Romasenko, 1998; Peeters, Raemakers & Smit, 1999). These may also prove to be hosts in Britain.

Other species cited as possible hosts on the continent are: Anthidium (syn. Trachusa) byssinum, Anthophora plagiata, A. parietina, Megachile analis (Banaszak & Romasenko, 1998; Peeters, Raemakers & Smit, 1999; Stanisavljević, 2000).
