Excavator: Ground.Generally nests in small aggregations, the burrow entrances usually being scattered, rather than in clusters (R.C.L. Perkins, 1943; Chambers, 1949; personal observations). R.C.L. Perkins (1919g), however, reports that it may nest in large, compact assemblages. On continental Europe, Dylewska (1987) describes the species as nesting solitarily at wood edges
