Nests occur on the surface of the ground (Sladen, 1912; Alford, 1975). The comb is yellow and has a neat appearance (Alford, 1975). Occupied nests are illustrated by Sladen (1912, as B. helferanus), Alford 1975, at an early stage only) and E. von Hagens (1986). The species is supposedly less aggressive than its relative, B. muscorum (Sladen, 1912).
