Hoplitis (Anthocopa) jakovlevi (Radoszkovsky, 1874)

Excavator; Ground. Excavated short burrows in horizontal or vertical hard soil with 1-2 linearly arranged cells at the end. The females sometimes also use preexisting insect burrows in the ground, e.g. burrows of cicada larvae.

Nesting material: The cells are entirely built of petals of Althaea (Malvaceae). The petals used to line the nest burrow in the beginning are used in the end to close the cell. In long preexisting insect burrows, a basal plug is constructed consisting of Althaea petals. (Banaszak and Romasenko, 2001; Gutbier, 1915; G. Le Goff, personal observation; Müller & Richter, 2018)
