Bombus (Alpinobombus) balteatus Dahlbom, 1832

The nests are established below the ground in existing cavities (eg abandoned rodent nests). The nest material consists of fibrous fragments of plants, with those in the roof being plastered together with wax. The colonies are small, with no more than 30 workers being produced in a season. (Meidell in Løken, 1973). The species can be encouraged to use artificial nest boxes. (Løken,1973). A nest examined in Rogaland in early July contained 41 individuals
