Chelostoma (Foveosmia) campanularum (Kirby, 1802)

Renter: Existing cavities; Dead Wood nester. This species generally nests gregariously in existing burrows in exposed, sunlit woodwork (generally in the exit holes of small wood boring beetles, the burrow entrances being about 2-3 mm in diameter). Favoured sites include decaying tree boles and weathered fence posts; reeds in thatch may also be occupied (Pittioni, 1949).

The nest is linear, divided into cells by transverse partitions. The nest partitions and closing plug are constructed from sand or loam (Westrich, 1989). In the nest there are usually 2-4 brood cells. The cell diameter is 2-2.5 mm and the length is 6-7 mm (Stanisavljević, 2000).
