Melitta (Cilissa) haemorrhoidalis (FABRICIUS, 1775)

Excavator: Ground. On the Isle of Man, C. O'Toole (pers.comm.) found scattered nests of this species in a sandy hedgebank. Details of nest architecture and the immature stages remain undescribed.

the females excavate their nests in the soil at a depth of about 10cm. There is a large main gallery surrounded by the brood cells. (Michez, 2004)
