Sphecodes crassus THOMSON, 1870

As this is a cleptoparasitic species, all flower visits will be for nectar only.

Flowers visited: British males have been observed flying to Calluna vulgaris (Ericaceae), Achillea millefolium, Tripleurospermum and Cirsium arvense (Asteraceae). There are no records for females (Else & Edwards, 2018).

Celary (1991) lists the following species as nectar sources in Poland: Sedum acre (Crassulaceae); Fragaria vesca, Potentilla verna (Rosaceae); Aegopodium podagraria, Pimpinella saxifraga (Apiaceae); Anthemis arvensis, Senecio sp., Leontodon autumnalis, Taraxacum officinale, Hieracium sp. (Asteraceae).

Pawlikowski & Kruszynski (1997) list Calluna vulgaris (Ericaceae) as a nectar source in Poland.
