Thyreus ramosus (LEPELETIER, 1841)

As this is a cleptoparasitic species, all flower visits will be for nectar only.

Data gathered from specimens and observations list the following forage species: Eryngium campestre (Apiaceae); Echium angustifolium, Heliotropium hirsutissimum (Boraginaceae); Coridothymus capitatus (Lamiaceae).

Lieftinck (1968) lists: Mentha cervina, Mentha pulegium, Thymus mastighina (Lamiaceae) Echium sp. (Boraginaceae); Ligustrum lucidum (Oleaceae); Hirschfeldia incana (Brassicaceae) and Scabiosa maritima (Dipsacaceae)(all from Iocs, in Spain). Carlina vulgaris (Asteraceae)(Assisi, Italy). Echium italicum (Boraginaceae); Stachys thirkei; Marrubium incanum (Lamiaceae); Reseda lutea (Resedaceae)and Onopordon illyricum (Asteraceae)(all from Iocs, in Yugoslavia). Scolymus hispanicus (Asteraceae)and Vitex agnus-castus (Lamiaceae)(Cyclades, Greece).

Mavromoustakis (1948; 1951; 1952; 1954) reports visitation to Marrubium vulgate apolum,Teucrium polium micropodioides, Coridothymus capitatus (Lamiaceae); Limonium (=Statice) virgata (Plumbaginaceae); Heliotropium europeum, Echium sericeum (Boraginaceae); Dittrichis (=Inula) viscosa, Carlina lanata, Centaurea cilicica (Asteraceae) in Cyprus.
