Details of the lectic status of this species are lacking, but it is possibly polylectic.
Banaszak & Romasenko (1989) list the following forage sources: Centaurea (Asteraceae); Lythrum (Lythraceae); Medicago, Amorpha, Sophora (Fabaceae); Hyssopus (Lamiaceae); Punica (Punicaceae).
Mueller & Bansac (2004) state that M. deceptoria have been observed to collect pollen mainly from Fabaceae (Benoist, 1940; Dorn and Weber, 1988; Gogala, 1998, 1999), and also Cucurbitaceae (Rust et al., 2003).
