Oligolectic on Echium (Boraginaceae) (Le Goff, 2003a; A. Müller, unpublished, based on 48 pollen samples from 21 different localities). One pollen sample contains boraginaceous pollen putatively belonging to Nonea, which indicates a certain flexibility of H. fertoni in the choice of its boraginaceous hosts.
