Colletes similis SCHENCK, 1853

Broadly oligolectic on Asteroideae (Asteraceae). Müller & Kuhlmann (2008) list as pollen sources: Asteroideae (Asteraceae), Polygonum (Polygonaceae), Apiaceae, and Castanea (Fagaceae) based on 50 pollen loads from 39 different localities.

Forage plants not known for the British Isles, though on limestone grassland, on the Dorset coast near Swanage, several females were apparently foraging on Daucus carota (Apiaceae) flowers (pers. obs.).

In Germany, the Netherlands and Russia on Asteraceae (Westrich, 1989; Peeters, Raemakers & Smit, 1999; Pesenko in Banaszak, 1995).

In Finland; flower records are of Tanacetum, Matricaria and Achillea (Asteraceae).(Söderman & Leinonen, 2003). Pekkarinen (1998) lists plants in the following genera of Asteraceae as pollen sources: Achillea, Leucanthemum, Tanacetum,and Tripleurospermum.

In Spain, reported to visit Asteraceae (Ornosa & Ortiz-Sánchez, 2004).

Mavroumoustakis (1948; 1951)(cited in Grace, 2010) lists Anthemis, Pulicaria dysenterica (Asteraceae); Polygonum equisetiforme (Polygonaceae); Foeniculum piperitum (Apiaceae); Limonium virgatum (as Statice)(Plumbaginaceae) and Alyssum troodi (Brassicaceae) as forage plants. Mavromoustakis also cites Tamarix sp. (Tamaricaceae) as a forage source in Cyprus.
