Colletes marginatus Smith, 1846

Polylectic. Müller & Kuhlmann (2008) list as pollen sources: Fabaceae, Apiaceae, Odontites (Orobanchaceae) Brassicaceae, Resedaceae, Caryophyllaceae, Lamiaceae and Campanulaceae based on 50 pollen loads from 33 different localities. Rubus fruticosus agg. (Rosaceae) is apparently the only British record (G.R. Else pers. comm.).

According to Westrich (1989), this bee is oligolectic on Fabaceae in Germany.

The species is also regarded as oligolectic on Fabaceae in Finland: flower records include Melilotus alba, Trifolium arvense and Trifolium repens (Fabaceae)(Söderman & Leinonen, 2003).
