A Polylectic species. Pollen sources not known on Guernsey. Flowers visited; Cirsium vulgare (Asteraceae)(C. David, pers. comm.).
In Germany, foraging from species in the families Asteraceae, Boraginaceae, Convolvulaceae, Dipsacaceae, Oleaceae, Papaveraceae, Ranunculaceae and Valerianaceae (Westrich, 1989).
Preferring Asteraceae with large flowers (Onopordon, Carduus, Centaurea, Cirsium etc.)(Pesenko, Banaszak et al., 2000).
Ebmer (1969) lists the following plants as forage species: Stachys recta (Lamiaceae); Centaurea jacea, Achillea, Cichorium intybus, Solidago (Asteraceae); Knautia (Dipsacaceae); Daucus (Apiaceae).
Ortiz-Sanchez & Pauly (2017) report visitation to Eryngium campestre (Apiaceae) in Castilla y Leon (Spain).
Mavromoustakis (1948; 1951; 1952) lists the following plants as forage species in Cyprus: Scolymus hispanicus, Chrysanthemum segetum, Onopordum insigne, Achillea santolina, Cardopatium (=Broteroa) corymÂbosa, Anthemis arvensis, Centaurea hyalolepis, Centaurea cilicica (Asteraceae); Marrubium vulgare apolum (Lamiaceae); Rubus ulmifolius anatolicus (Rosaceae); Cistus villosus (Cistaceae); Papaver rhoeas (Papaveraceae); Ammi sp. (Apiaceae); Allium sp, (Alliaceae); Citrus sp. (Rutaceae).
This species is also a visitor to orchard fruit crops in highland Jordan.
