Polylectic with strong preference for Ericaceae: Else & Edwards (2018) report visitation in UK: Vaccinium myrtillus and V. vitis-idaea (Ericaceae) although in southern England most populations are probably monolectic on V. myrtillus. Neave (1921) reports the species gathering much pollen from Rhododendron as well as from Vaccinium. Apparent nectar sources (but possibly including secondary pollen sources) are Viola riviniana (Violaceae); Ulex europaeus (Fabaceae); Prunus spinosa (Rosaceae); Salix (Salicaceae); Thymus (Lamiaceae) and Taraxacum (Asteraceae)
In Germany it also collects pollen from V. uliginosum and V. oxycoccos (Ericaceae)(Westrich, 1989), and it is thus possible that these two species may be similarly utilized in the British Isles. Westrich reports that in Polylectic with strong preference for Ericaceae. In areas where only V. myrtillus is found, the females will exploit other flowers when the prime forage species is over.
Müller (2018) reported pollen collecting at plants of 16 different families: Vaccinium, Rhododendron (Ericaceae); Potentilla-type, Geum (Rosaceae); Asteraceae (Carduoideae, Asteroideae); Moneses (Pyrolaceae); Helianthemum (Cistaceae); Ranunculaceae; Soldanella (Primulaceae); Oxalis (Oxalidaceae); Salix (Salicaceae); Caryophyllaceae; Liliaceae; Plantago (Plantaginaceae); Saxifraga (Saxifragaceae); Acer (Aceraceae); Lamiaceae (Nepetoidea); Gentianaceae
Pawlikowski & Kruszynski (1997) list Potentilla arenaria (Rosaceae) as a forage source in Poland.
Pekkarinen (1998) lists the following pollen sources in Finland: Calluna, Andromeda, Arctostaphylos, Chamaedaphne, and Vaccinium (of which Vaccinium vitis-idaea is the most favoured)(Ericaceae)
M.A. Macdonald (in litt.) in 2007 sampled pollen from a female from Scotland, and found it to be carrying pollen of Saxifraga aizoides (Saxifragaceae). He also reports another female visiting Thymus polytrichus (Lamiaceae).
Gogala (2011) states that the species will visit Vaccinium myrtillus (Ericaceae) in Slovenia, it is also recorded foraging for pollen at Salix (Salicaceae) and Heliathemum (Asteraceae).
Kemp et al (2014), citing others, states that Andrena lapponica is mainly specialized on pollen of Vaccinium. The females can also collect pollen from the Asteraceae, Brassicaceae, Rosaceae and Salicaceae (Osytshnjuk 1977).
