Oligolectic: Ericaceae, especially Calluna. In Britain both C. vulgaris and Erica species are visited, the former being a pollen source, but it has yet to be established if Erica pollen is also collected. Females loaded with pollen from yellow-flowered Asteraceae have been collected when the normal ericaceous pollen sources were mostly over (R.C.L. Perkins, 1919g).
In Czechoslovakia, Kocourek (1966) additionally cites Lotus corniculatus (Fabaceae); Epilobium, Chamaenerion angustifolium (Onagraceae); Jasione montana (Campanulaceae) and Cirsium (Asteraceae) as flowers visited.
In Europe the only known pollen source is Calluna vulgaris, but in other areas Erica species may be utilised (Ericaceae) (Westrich, 1989;(Söderman & Leinonen, 2003). Pawlikowski & Kruszynski (1997) and Pekkarinen (1998) list only Calluna (Ericaceae) as a pollen source in Poland and Finland respectively.
Tomozei (2014) citing others states that the females collect pollen especially from Calluna vulgaris (Ericaceae), but it was also found on Asteraceae, Caryophyllaceae, Fabaceae and Onagraceae species (Osytshnjuk et al. 2005). It is considered strongly specialized on Calluna vulgaris (Exeler et al. 2010).
