Apis (Apis) mellifera Linnaeus, 1758

Broadly Polylectic. It seems pointless to list the numerous species exploited for pollen by this bee.

Owing to its national abundance and prolonged flight season, this species is a pollinator of major importance for a wide spectrum of both commercial crops and native flowers. Hodges (1974 facsimile of 1952 edition) provides a useful summary of pollen collection and utilization by A. mellifera. The tongues of queens and males are too short for them to be able to gather nectar, so they have to be fed by the workers.
