Andrena (Hoplandrena) bucephala STEPHENS, 1846

Polylectic: This species is unusual in apparently restricting its floral visits to tall shrubs and trees. Pollen sources not known for British populations, but the species is probably polylectic.

In south Wales, males have been seen "swarming" on the flowers of Ilex aquifolium (Aquifoliaceae)(Hallett, 1928).

In Germany the species is polylectic foraging from species in the families Aceraceae, Rosaceae and Salicaceae (Westrich, 1989). Elsewhere in Europe it also visits Rhamnus catharctica (Rhamnaceae) and Bellis (Asteraceae) (Dylewska, 1987), but it is not known if these too are pollen sources.

Scheuchl (in prep.) lists Acer (Aceraceae); Salix (Salicaceae); Crataegus (Rosaceae) and Bellis (Asteraceae) as forage sources.

Ebmer (2009) lists the species as visiting Prunus cerasus (Rosaceae)

Tomozei (2017) citing others states that the species is polylectic, in that it prefers to forage upon a wide range of flowering plants species, and females collect pollen from trees and shrubs of Crataegus, Cerasus (Rosaceae); Rhamnus (Rhamnaceae), Salix (Salicaceae) and Acer (Aceraceae).
