Andrena (Taeniandrena) similis Smith 1849

Oligolectic: Probably oligolectic on Fabaceae. In Germany Westrich, (1989) lists Lotus corniculatus, Trifolium pratense and Genista anglica as pollen sources whilst in Czechoslovakia, Kocourek (1966) states that it is an important pollinator of cultivated clovers (Trifolium) and lucerne (Medicago sativa)

The full range of pollen sources is not known. In Britain, it is attracted to legume flowers and has been noted collecting Ulex pollen. Other flower visiting records include Acer pseudoplatanus (Aceraceae) Trifolium (Fabaceae) Crataegus, Pyrus (Rosaceae) Salix aurita (Salicaceae)Vaccinium myrtillus (Ericaceae) Menyanthes (Gentianaceae) Veronica (Scrophulariaceae) Glechoma hederacea and Ajuga (Lamiaceae) though these may represent nectar sources only (Falk, 1991).

Tomozei & Radchenko (2015), citing others, regard this as an oligolectic species specialized on Fabaceae (Lotus corniculatus, Trifolium pretense, Genista anglica, Coronilla varia, Medicago falcata, Doricnium herbaceum), but visited by many other plants: Rosaceae (Malus domestica, Potentilla); Tamaricaceae (Tamarix); Salicaceae (Salix); Brassicaceae (Alyssum desertorum) and Euphorbiaceae (Euphorbia petrophilla) (Warncke 1966a, Andreyev et al. 1986, Osytshnjuk 1977, Gogala 1999, Calabuig and Madsen 2009). The reports of males being pollinators of Ophrys lojaconoi (Orchidaceae) in Puglia (Italy) through pseudocopulation (Paulus 2007) probably refer to Andrena russula.
