Andrena (Andrena) apicata Smith, 1847

Oligolectic: Salix species (Salicaceae), its flight period being very closely synchronised with the maturation of the catkins. M. Edwards (pers. comm.) noted females collecting Ulex europaeus (Fabaceae) pollen in a West Sussex site, and in Bedfordshire, Chambers (1949, 1968) reports Salix (Salicaceae)pollen loads containing a low proportion of Prunus (P. spinosus and P. avium) (Rosaceae) pollens, taken by him from late flying individuals.

Westrich (1989) lists the species Salix caprea, Salix cinerea, Salix aurita, Salix fragilis and Salix alba (Salicaceae) as pollen sources (Westrich, 1989).

Söderman & Leinonen (2003) list the species Salix caprea, Salix cinerea, Salix aurita and Salix fragilis (Salicaceae) as pollen sources (even though A. apicata does not occur in Finland).

Tomozei (2017) citing others lists visitation to: Taraxacum officinale, Tussilago farfara (Asteraceae); Salix (Salicaceae) and Cerasus, Prunus (Rosaceae). It is recognized as an effective pollinator of fruit trees (such as cherry trees) (Osytshnjuk 1977, Dylewska 1987, Osytshnjuk et al. 2008).
