Anthophora (Anthophora) plumipes (Pallas, 1772)

Presumed to be polylectic, but surprisingly British pollen sources are not confirmed.

Westrich (1989) describes it as a polylectic species and records it foraging from plants in the families in Germany: Berberidaceae, Boraginaceae, Fabaceae, Iridaceae, Lamiaceae, Liliaceae, Papaveraceae, Primulaceae, Rosaceae and Scrophulariaceae. In the Netherlands, Peeters, Raemakers & Smit (1999) also state that it is polylectic, but with a preference for Lamiaceae.

Pawlikowski & Kruszynski (1997) list Taraxacum officinale (Asteraceae); Glechoma hederaceae, Lamium purpureum (Lamiaceae) as forage sources in Poland.

In Cyprus, Mavromoustakis (1948) reports visitation to Amygdalus dulcis, Crataegus azarolus (Rosaceae); Anchusa sp., Onosna fruticosum (Boraginaceae); Vicia sp., Astrgalus lusitanicus (Fabaceae); Lamium amplexicaule, Salvia sp. (Lamiaceae)

In Cambridgeshire, A. plumipes has been demonstrated to be an important pollinator of cultivated, autumn-sown varieties of Vicia faba (Fabaceae) (Bond & Kirby, 1999).

Maghni et al (2017) list the following forage sources in Algeria: Sinapis arvensis (Brassicaceae); Centaurea montana, Calendula arvensis, Urospermum dalechampii (Asteraceae); Oxalis sp. (Oxalidaceae); Fumaria capreolata (Fumariaceae); Papaver rhoeas (Papaveraceae); Galeopsis calcarea (Lamiaceae)

Paulus (2006) states that this species is the pollinator of the sexually deceptive orchid Ophrys crabronifera (Orchidaceae)
