The species seems to have a preference for dry, sandy soils. (GB)
In the Zaili-Iskogo Altai mountains it is found in the middle alpine zone from 1400 to 2000m above sea level (Marikovskaya, 1990). Also found in the Talas Alatai (Aksu-Zhabagly Gorge) at an altitude of 1360m. (KZ)
